It is always a joy for me to share creative projects with others and as a designer/maker I am always happy to share, so here it is, costumes are going really well for The Tempest, we are pulling out some wonderful pieces from our large store of costumes to create a 16th Century court of gentlemen, Greek inspired Island dwellers and this week we had a lot of fun with some dip dyeing for our ocean of Ariels, there is more than one.
I definitely don’t want to give away too much as I love surprises but I did want to share with you the fun we had on a sunny but windy Monday morning outside with big buckets of water and a lot of white muslin fabric.
Here it is in process:
All gathered together with elastic and cotton ties.
We dunked the bottom half of the fabric into cold water.
Mixing up the main blue dye on a higher surface,. we used Dylon cold water dyes.
Dye mixed, squeeze excess water out of fabric and hang from washing line.
We mixed up a green with some of the blue in another bucket to do the bottom
Ocean in the wind.
It’s always a great feeling to be ahead of yourself, and getting things done. On Sunday a group of us went to our barn where we keep our set pieces and props and had a good old clean up and rummage to pull together everything that’s needed for The Tempest’s very creative island set. Here are a few of the pictures of our fun little outing…
